Panthers acquire Leroux from the Flames for Yu

The Port Moody Panthers announced today the acquisition of forward Derek Leroux from the Ridge Meadows Flames in exchange for defenseman Nicholas Yu.

Leroux, 17, has appeared in 11 games for the Flames this season, collecting a goal and four assists. The 5’10”, 175 pound forward spent the 2020-21 season with the Coquitlam Minor Hockey Association U18 Chiefs but didn’t play any games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to joining the Chiefs, Leroux, who’s from Coquitlam, BC, played with the Vancouver NE Chiefs U16 AAA in the BC Elite Hockey League and posted 10 goals and 17 assists in 28 games.

Yu, 20, spent the last four seasons in Port Moody, compiling 11 goals and 38 assists in 84 games. His 49 points are fifth overall all-time in scoring among Panthers defensemen.
