Panthers acquire Ryden Mathieson from White Rock

The Port Moody Panthers Hockey Club announced today that the team has acquired forward Ryden Mathieson (04) from the White Rock Whalers to complete the Nov. 10, 2021 trade that saw the Whalers acquire forwards Jayson Beauregard (01) and Dawson Ignatieff (02) for forward Kai Hughes (04) and future considerations.

Mathieson, from Langley, recorded 10 goals and 17 assists in 40 games with the Whalers in 2021-22, his first full season in the Pacific Junior Hockey League. He added three goals and two assists in 17 playoff games as White Rock advanced to the Stonehouse Cup Final.

“We’re very excited to add Ryden to our forward group this season,” said Panthers general manager Brian Wiebe. “It was difficult to trade Jayson as our captain, but to bring in Ryden and Kai Hughes, we look forward to this deal having a big impact on the future of our team.”

Hughes, who hails from Vancouver, finished the 2021-22 season with a goal and eight points in 24 games with the Panthers after the trade from White Rock.

Both Mathieson and Hughes attended training camp with the Western Hockey League’s Prince George Cougars last season. Mathieson is on Prince George’s 50-player protected list and Hughes was one of 22 forwards to play in the Cougars intra-squad game last September.
