Panthers alumnus Callum Tung signs with the New York Rangers

Port Moody Panthers alumnus Callum Tung has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the New York Rangers which starts in the 2025-26 NHL season. Tung has also signed an amateur tryout with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

He appeared in eight games for the Panthers to end the 2022-23 season, leading all Port Moody goalies with a 3.11 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage. Tung had a record of 3-2-0.

Tung, 21, was 10-4-1 with a 2.01 goals-against average, and a .933 save percentage in 15 NCAA Division I games with the University of Connecticut Huskies in Hockey East this season. His efforts led the Huskies to their first appearance at the NCAA Tournament. leading them to their first-ever NCAA Tournament.

The Port Moody product’s save percentage this season was second among Hockey East goaltenders and his goals-against average was third. Tung allowed two or fewer goals in 11 of his 15 appearances for UConn in 2024-25.

Tung moved up from the Panthers to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the B.C. Hockey League in 2023-24. He finished that year with a 22-14-0 record, a 2.80 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage, and three shutouts. He was number-one among all BCHL goaltenders in saves with 1,118.

He was 11-7 in 19 career BCHL playoff games, improving his goals-against average to 2.16 and save percentage to .939.

Tung is the first Panthers alumnus to sign an NHL contract since Andrew Ladd inked a seven-year pact with the New York Islanders on July 1, 2016.
