The Port Moody Panthers will have one alumnus attend an NHL training camp this week as forward Carson Latimer has been named to the Ottawa Senators 59-player 2022-23 training camp roster.
The 19-year-old from Surrey, BC was selected by the Senators in the fourth round, 123rd overall, in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Latimer split the 2021-22 season between Edmonton and Prince Albert of the Western Hockey League, finishing with 18 goals and 40 points in 62 games. He was the WHL Central Division rookie of the year in 2020-21 after posting 16 points in 22 games for Edmonton.
He started 2020-21 by leading all PJHL rookies in scoring with a goal and 11 assists in eight games for the Panthers. His 11 assists were also tied for top among all players during the COVID-19 shortened season.
That summer, he became the first player ever selected in the NHL Draft after being a regular rostered player in the Pacific Junior Hockey League that same season.
