The Port Moody Panthers announced today that 2004-born forward Ty Balchen has committed to the University of Jamestown for the 2024-25 season.
Balchen will study at the Jamestown, North Dakota campus while also playing in the American Collegiate Hockey Association for the Jimmies. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound forward had 28 goals and 27 assists for 55 points in 48 games as an alternate captain for the Panthers during the 2023-24 season, his second in the PJHL.
His eight power play goals led all Port Moody skaters this past season and his efforts saw him named as the Panthers’ Unsung Hero Award winner.
A native of North Vancouver, B.C, Balchen finished with 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points in 44 games as a rookie in 2022-23 after signing with the Panthers in July 2022.
Balchen leaves a mark on the Panthers record book as his 38 goals are ninth all-time in franchise history. Additionally, his 73 points are 16th all-time.
