Panthers hire Mauricio Soriano-McKinnon as associate athletic trainer

The Port Moody Panthers announced today the hiring of Mauricio Soriano-McKinnon as the team’s associate athletic trainer for the 2023-24 season.

Soriano-McKinnon is currently a student in the Bachelor of Kinesiology program at Capilano University. He has experience in supplementary coursework at Cap U in Advanced Musculoskeletal Anatomy, Care and Prevention of Injury, and Advanced Exercise Physiology.

The 22-year-old from Burnaby is a Panthers alumnus who posted a 7-6-0 record along with a 3.81 goals-against average, and an .894 save percentage in 16 games during the 2018-19 season. He played 30 career Pacific Junior Hockey League games with the Panthers, Richmond, and Abbotsford from 2018-20, compiling a 15-9-0 record, one shutout, an .893 save percentage, and a 3.53 goals-against average.

“Working with the Panthers as an associate athletic trainer will provide excellent hands-on experience as well as help me work towards my future aspirations in physiotherapy,” said Soriano-McKinnon. “Sports medicine has always been an interest of mine and I am very excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the success of the Panthers once again.”

Soriano-McKinnon joins Panthers game day athletic trainer Cole Iantorno on the team’s training staff. During the 2023-24 season, Soriano-McKinnon will act as trainer at select Panthers’ practices in addition to aiding Iantorno at some of Port Moody’s games.
