The Port Moody Panthers announced today that the team has signed 2008-born defender David Zhang for the 2026-27 Pacific Junior Hockey League season.
Zhang got into 40 games last season with the Richmond Jets Minor Hockey Association U18 A1 Tier 1 team. Before that, he spent two full seasons at the U17 level with the Greater Vancouver Canadians program in the BCEHL, posting one goal and six assists for seven points in 34 games during the 2024-25 campaign.
“I am excited to play with the Panthers this season as I can play a decent level of hockey while still furthering my education at UBC,” said Zhang.
The defender has appeared in 96 career regular-season games over three BCEHL U15 and U17 seasons with GVC, compiling three goals and 13 assists for 16 points, along with 26 penalty minutes.
“This season, I would primarily want to work towards getting physically stronger on the puck and winning more battles in the corners, but also developing a healthier routine and mindset as I grow as both a person and a player,” noted Zhang.
Before advancing to the BCEHL, Zhang developed within the Burnaby Winter Club program, playing the 2021-22 season as a member of the BWC U15 A1 team.
“As for how I play, I tend to stick to playing solid defensive plays. I do add touches of offence when the opportunity arises,” explained Zhang.
Zhang is the second signed player by the Panthers for the 2026-27 PJHL season, joining forward Logan Cyr as new recruits.
