The Port Moody Panthers are proud to announce the signing of 2007-born defenceman Isaac Cheng for the 2025-26 Pacific Junior Hockey League season.
Cheng joins the Panthers after spending the past three seasons with the Vancouver Minor Hockey Association U18 A1 Tier 2 team, where he served as captain in 2024-25. He was also affiliated with the Panthers during the past two seasons.
Cheng’s accomplishments extend beyond the ice. In 2024-25, he was recognized with both a Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association scholarship – awarded for academic achievement and community service – and the prestigious BC Hockey Scholarship, which celebrates skill, sportsmanship, and commitment to hockey and the community.
“What drew me to play for the Panthers is that it’s an opportunity to develop both as a player and a teammate,” said Cheng. “The organization’s resources and commitment to development will push me to elevate my game in unique ways. The energetic culture that has been built will push me to improve my game day in and day out.”
Cheng is focused on adjusting quickly to junior hockey. “I aim to adapt to the pace and physicality of this league, improving my decision-making under pressure. I want to continue to be a more complete player, contributing offensively without compromising my defensive responsibilities.”
The Vancouver native brings a presence to the Panthers’ blue line at both ends of the ice. “I’d describe my game as a modern, puck-moving defenseman with a two-way impact. I excel in transition using my edge-work and vision to find open seams, dictate pace, and create space, all while being responsible on the defensive side of the puck.”
Cheng becomes the fourth recruit to the Panthers’ roster for the 2025-26 season.
