The Port Moody Panthers today announced the signing of 2005-born defender Tyson Segarty for the 2023-24 Pacific Junior Hockey League season.
Segarty spent 2022-23 with the Ridge Meadows Rustlers U18 A1 team in the Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association. He also was with the Rustlers U18 A1 team in 2021-22, the same season he got into two games for the Panthers as an affiliate player.
The challenge of his first season of junior hockey is one that Segarty looks forward to. “I’m excited to play for the Panthers this season and all the experiences that come with playing Junior hockey,” said Segarty, who hails from Pitt Meadows.
He played for the Rustlers U18 A3 team in 2020-21 and has spent his entire minor hockey career in the Ridge Meadows Association. Segarty has one specific element in mind as a goal for his first season with the Panthers.
“A goal I have for my first season of junior hockey is to become more physical in my game,” said Segarty, who describes himself as a skilled blueliner. “(I feel) I am a high-IQ, playmaking defenceman.”
Segarty joins forwards Wesley Suszezwiez, Marcus Lindholm, Mark Wu, Nicolas Lee, and Tristan Lindsay, defenders Lucas Crescenzo, Matthew Kim, and Ethan Chu, and goaltender Ty Angus as nine incoming players to sign with the Panthers for the 2023-24 PJHL season.
