Vancouver NE Chiefs U17 forward Mark Wu signs with the Panthers

The Port Moody Panthers today announced the signing of 2006-born forward Mark Wu for the 2023-24 Pacific Junior Hockey League season.

Wu spent the 2022-23 season as an alternate captain for the Vancouver North East Chiefs U17 AAA program in the British Columbia Elite Hockey League. In 35 games, he tallied six goals and 11 assists for 17 points, good enough for fourth in scoring among all 2006-born players on the Chiefs. He played for the Coquitlam Minor Hockey Association U18 A1 team in 2021-22.

“The Panthers’ commitment to developing and moving players up to junior A programs is very exciting for me. I believe that playing in Port Moody will be a big stepping stone in advancing my game to help me achieve my goal of playing at the next level,” said Wu. “The community of Port Moody is very passionate and has a rich hockey history which only makes me more thrilled to be a part of it.”

Wu has set specific goals for himself as he gets into his first season of junior hockey. “I’m motivated to have a big year with the Panthers and add depth to my game. My focus for this season is to come in and compete to the highest level possible, make big jumps as an individual, and contribute towards making a playoff push. I’m eager to meet the returning core, new signings and to be a part of the organization,” said Wu.

He describes himself as the type of forward whose game revolves around speed changes and transitions. “I can slow down the game using deception to generate offense. Getting creative, trying new plays, and figuring out ways to beat goalies are things that I work on a lot,” he said. “I’m a versatile and well-rounded player with elite edgework and a great shot. I adapt quickly and thrive when playing against tough competition as it only raises my game and brings out my intensity.”

Wu joins forwards Wesley Suszezwiez and Marcus Lindholm, defender Matthew Kim, and goaltender Ty Angus as five incoming players to sign with the Panthers for the 2023-24 PJHL season.
